Specialising in “soulful ruminations on life, love and take away food”, Angie McMahon releases bare, smokey and freewheeling rocker Slow Mover, the first taste off her debut record due out next year. Having had a killer few months taking out the Josh Pyke Partnership and scoring supports for luminaries Father John Misty, The Jezabels, Gretta Ray, The Teskey Brothers and up next Alex Lahey, Angie’s had plenty of luck on her side, but really, there’s something about that voice – throaty, distinctive, Gordi-esque – that marks her out as memorable right away.
Angie says, “Slow Mover is a song about putting energy into things that are worthwhile, and taking plenty of time to get to a good place. I’d spent a lot of time pining after love, but at this point my head was shifting, and what I actually wanted and needed was to pursue my music career.” Sounds like a fine idea Angie, and well worth your energy and focus finally. You’ll make it, keep going!
