“Model penis in Thornbury window across the road from primary school sparks concern” says 3AW re Biscotti‘s Like Heaven In The Movies recent exhibition at local gallery Neon Parlour. Long time listener/first time caller Vicki from Thornbury rang Neil Mitchell to complain about the exhibition’s 25-30cm plastic penis displayed in full view of St Mary’s Primary School students, so Neil rang the gallery to get the scoop.
“Why?” Neil asked gallery co-director Travis Vella. “Why?”
“What’s the point of the work?” pressed Neil. “What is a penis standing alone by itself saying? What is the penis saying?”
Goddamn it Neil, leave the penis alone mate.
As well as a fab talk-back radioworthy hullaballo, artistic collabers Alice Hutchinson and Biscotti’s Carla Ori have created a sumptuous technicolour spectacle for the eyes and ears. Inspired by 70s Italian films, they’ve created a lurid still life image for each single from debut album Like Heaven In The Movies. A kitschy dreamland of colour and pep, you’ll feel like you’ve been trapped overnight at Lost and Found as you contemplate the imagery and groove to the mix of synth pop, disco, hip-hop and funk.
Feast your eyes on the images, grab your Bandcamp copy of the Like Heave In The Movies out via LISTEN Records and get in touch with Alice Hutchinson if you want to own one of these incredible pieces. Catch Biscotti live throughout March on the dates below.
