Esther Holt’s Summer Playlist

Indie-folksters, get onto Melbourne’s Esther Holt ASAP. Like right now. Her debut EP Cat & Mouse went straight onto WildnFree‘s high rotation iPhone playlist and I just couldn’t love it anymore. Seaside (ft Lawrence Greenwood) is just as driftwood/beach hair/sand-between-your-toes as a song can be. I woke up with a dramatic melody in my head the other day, thought I was a genius songwriter, then realised it was actually second track Heart & Nail. And then wait ’til you hear the horns and harmonies on By Water. No words.

Since she’s clearly a legend, Esther has put together a summer playlist full of beauties for us. WildnFree fully endorses Here Comes The Sun being number one on this playlist (George 4eva). Over to you Esther!

Here Comes The Sun –The Beatles

I can’t go past Here Comes The Sun for a track that just makes me feel good immediately. There’s something very special in that songwriting.

Peace Is My Drug – Katie Noonan

This track has the most amazing feel and beautiful message. The lyrics are taken from the Michael Leunig poem Peace, and when you combine this with Katie’s vocals you can just sit back and dream.

I’m Writing A Novel – Father John Misty

I love the Americana vibe of this song. Amazing songwriter with an amazing live show (I have most recently discovered)!

1234 – Feist

Enough time has passed for this to not just be the song correlated with whatever ad it was on way back when. I love the way grooves along so easily.

Born Yawning – Ben Wright Smith

This song is the ultimate pop song with a super catchy hook. Perfect for summer! (Plus rad video, read about it here)

Thanks Esther, love your work. Now listen to Cat & Mouse and fall in love:
