Julia Jacklin ~ Leadlight

Enjoy this #awks trip back to high school thanks to Sydney singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin‘s new music video for Leadlight. Filmed in her old high school hall, revealed at 2:43 to be one Winmalee High School (Strive to Achieve, Success for Tomorrow), Julia re-feels all those feelings you’d rather forget in this most vivid, endearing, and ultimately triumphant vid.

First catching The School Babe shooting hoops in the gym, Julia hides anxiously in the toilets, clutching her heart, breathing through the panic, plucking up her courage. Who’s ever done that, readers? WildnFree has her hand up. Sadly, Julia overdoes it by singing her love straight into The School Babe’s face, which he coldly avoids. Burned! In a victory for Ignored Girls everywhere, Julia soon enough wises up and triumphantly pushes him right over. Suck shit mate. Your loss.

Julia says, “A lot of the shots focus on the stage where I performed in the chorus for ‘Grease’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and the unfortunate time I chose to sing ‘Wonderwall’ to a backing CD for a senior assembly.” Oh dear. I went back there recently and saw the hall in a whole new light. When I was at school I never really thought about it, it was just a boring school hall that I was forced to sit in for long assemblies and exams. Now I think it’s a really beautiful space.”

Taken from debut album Don’t Let The Kids Win (releasing Oct 7), Leadlight is made almost unbearably charming by Julia’s sweet warbling pipes, jangly guitar and overall languid lovelorn vibe. Make sure you get yourself familiar with this obvious legend before October 7.  To help with this mission, catch her live across Australia, North America, The UK and Europe on the dates below.
