On the coldest, rainiest Melbourne day since last September, a track by a band named Winter’s End seemed an aspirational choice. Thoughts, at least, will warm up Melburnian readers with its mega power-ballad intensity, and soothe any fractious breaking hearts with its lyrical sentiments. Belt out the vocals along with lead singer Marissa Pinto, perhaps under a hot shower, and break a sweat air jamming to the drama-filled guitar solo. All about dealing with a break-up in progress, you’ll no doubt feel the genuine soaring angst expressed by Pinto’s power vocal.
Pinto and her bandmate/bro Christopher Pinto say: “Thoughts is all about coming to terms with a failing relationship. It’s about facing this head on, and the process of bargaining, trying to reach the person, in an effort to stop it from falling apart.” Listen to the trailing closing lyrics ‘you’ve shut yourself away from me, I’ve shut myself away from you, it’s the last thing that I have to do’ and try NOT to feel the pain of this hellish process.
